An active champion of South Florida since 1980, Stephen Sauls spent more than 25+ years helping to build Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, into the nation’s 4th-ranked public research university and a South Florida anchor institution. A successful strategist and lecturer, Sauls played behind the scenes critical roles in FIU’s winning efforts to establish and fund a law school, a medical school, and other graduate programs. Through legislative initiatives, he obtained millions of dollars in research and new construction funds.
Sauls has had an extensive public career including having served as a senior political and legislative advisor, lobbyist, fund-raiser, and communications strategist for Florida public officials. They include two presidents of Florida International University in Miami, former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham, Florida House Speaker Tom Gustafson, Florida Commissioner of Education Ralph Turlington, and two Florida Members of Congress.
