Nicola Loud is one of the most versatile and successful violinists of her generation. She first came to prominence at the age of fifteen, when she won the high-profile television competition ‘BBC Young Musician of the Year’.
A former pupil of Sheila Nelson, she studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with György Pauk and then with Cho-Liang Lin at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. A regular on the concert platform, she has appeared numerous times as soloist with many major orchestras in the UK such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé, the BBC Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Abroad, her career highlights include critically acclaimed tours of both the USA and Mexico with the BBC Concert and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.
Her love of films and film music also led her to put together her ever popular cabaret show, which she performs around the world on luxury cruise ships.
She made her first recording for EMI as a soloist, with the “Queen Symphony”, a work based on themes by the rock group Queen, the debut performance of which was subsequently made into a DVD. In addition she was a soloist in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Greatest Classics” Collection playing “The Lark Ascending”, also released on EMI. Her latest recording is “Sway”, an album of popular favourites.
She has been awarded on ARAM by the Royal Academy of Music and has also been a presenter many times for the BBC, on both television and radio.
